Beecholme Adult Care has finally decided to take the plunge and add a blog to its site. We always looked for  an easy way to share information with people suffering from mental illness and we are super excited to start this journey.

BAC blog is about mental health, wellbeing substance abuse treatment and healthy relationships.

Each month, we will be sharing a range of stories, information and opinions on topics relating to mental health. We would love people to get involved in these discussions so please do not hesitate to post your comments and questions. If you have suggestions for future blog posts, please get in touch.

Our aim is to create a useful resource where people can come to read about mental health related subjects, and also get some tips that can help support your mental health.

The focus is on authenticity – we don’t want to shy away from talking about the reality of mental health issues,

Why a blog?

A blog allows for the sharing of stories and can reach a huge audience. On this platform, we hope to engage with different people who are affected by mental health, hear their stories and spread knowledge in that way. Further, we would like to offer educational materials and enable people to learn about mental illness.

We aim to help our readers understand what it means to have depression, anxiety or any sort of mental illness. Above all through our blog, we hope to spread empathy and understanding, to support people in need and to give practical tips on how  people could help manage their mental health and wellbeing.

Who we are?

Beecholme Adult Care is a residential care home that provides continuous support for individuals with mental illness, dual diagnosis and complex needs as they progress through their path to independence (see our services).

We also offer a Community Outreach program which promotes independence and social inclusion and  offers group learning and social activities.

People affected with or recovering from mental health problems  and everyone who feel lonely or isolated can drop into our Outreach Centre for a chat, a listening ear and have a cup of tea with BAC team.

Beecholme Adult Care is located at Mitcham, a “limited” area, with this blog we would like to reach a bigger audience and be able to support whoever needs it, whether they are suffering from any mental issue or they are family members of friends of someone with mental disorders.

Fighting the stigma

People with mental health problems say that the social stigma attached to mental ill health and the discrimination they experience can make their difficulties worse and make it harder to recover.

Mental illness is common. It affects thousands of people in the UK, and their friends, families, work colleagues and society in general.

The effects that stigma has on people with mental illness and their families are extensive. With stigma comes a lack of understanding of important others, which can be invalidating and painful. This can lead to isolation and shame. Stigma can also lead to harassment, bullying, and even violence.

Stigma also prevents people from seeking help or getting treatment, and as a result, their symptoms become worse and more difficult to treat.

Beecholme Adult Care is fighting the stigma, we want  to break the barriers to the conversation about mental health and the taboo of speaking about it publicly. We believe that knowledge can save lives. Education and increased awareness of the importance of mental health is the most important way to dispel the stigma surrounding mental illness.

We encourage all of you to read, visit, comment and contribute to building a community focused on promoting positive mental health and wellbeing.

Do feel free to contact us for more information or share your story!

We look forward to growing with you as we embark on this new journey. We’re excited to have you here!
